Your internet speed

Post  Lechensko on Fri 9 Nov 2007 - 13:56

What's your internet speed? There's a good site that shows you how fast your connection is.

Here's mine:

That test doesn't work! I shows i have a Dial-up speed, like all the other. My actually speed is 10Mbps/5Mbps.

That appears to be my speed, though I'm not entirely sure how accurate it is or how they really go about testing it. It's still neat though Smile Thanks for the link

That's interesting Alex.

I think there's a problem with your browser, and the site is recognising incorrect settings. Which browser did you use when you tried?

Perhaps it simply doesn't recognize your internet provider? With all the providers in the world, I doubt that every one is featured and catered to on that site.

That's probably the most likely cause.

Is Firefox's setting tuned with your broadband (ie. the network settings at 'power' ?)

Yep it is! Well none of my friends, who has the same provider, can complete a test like that and get the correct data, so that's probably the problem!

As for my speed, I'm not that happy with it. It should be at least double... I would like to crack at least 10 mbps.

Well, I think you can be happy that you got fast internet after all in your country but yeah, that would be cool. My problem is like yours. Even I live in germany, I exactly live in a part, where the next DSL-Server is too far away to get above 2000 KB/s. That sucks but yeah, they said from the start, we wouldn't be able to get any DSL before, so I'M happy with that what we got here.

I have virgin broadband. They had a deal going on and saying that this was pretty fast internet. I might have some tabs/windows that could be slowing it down but otherwise, that's my "download" speed. ^^;

What? Do all of you have cable?

Though now that I think about it, it's about up to 60 Kilobytes/sec or so download speed. I checked it when I recently downloaded something.

Hmmm that's pretty slow.

Through the normal Firefox downloader I always get above 100 kb/s... if I'm downloading from an Aussie server it's anywhere between 600 kb/s - 1.5 mb/s. It depends on what server you're downloading from, what settings your computer is running under, your actual computer, the quality of your ADSL/cable line, etc. Quite a lot of factors, but I'd be surprised if anyone went under 2000 kbps with ADSL/cable.

I'm so happy. I more than doubled my current speed through a simple alteration - something I should have tried MUCH earlier. Using the Ethernet cable instead of the USB cable. Haha! I'm such a damn noob. Very Happy
